These "stables" underneath the platform of the Haram esh Sharif are in fact the retaining structure built by Herod the Great when he expanded the size of the Temple Courts. They take the form of arches and vaults built up from the slop of the hill until they are level with its crest (where the Dome of the Rock now stands), and have nothing to do with either Solomon or horses.
