Tabitha’s Tomb in Jaffa

In this Page:

The sunny, spacious gardens surrounding the Russian Orthodox Church of Tabitha’s Tomb is a unique place to commemorate Peter’s raising of Tabitha from the dead (Acts 9:36-43), and to pray in a rarified old-world atmosphere.

The salmon-colored steeple of this church, located in the Abu Kabir neighborhood east of Old Jaffa, is a landmark. Still, a map will be helpful to reach its green metal gateway, off a side lane (Ofer Cohen Street) south of Kibbutz Galuyot Street.

The walls and ceiling of this nineteenth-century house of prayer are almost entirely covered with beautiful murals and icons. If you arrive for services (Sunday at 7:00 A.M., and most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 P.M) you may be treated to a celestial choir of unseen women chanting the liturgy a capella.
